This is a poster created for the Birmingham Royal Ballet's Pointe Blanke series.

The image is based on the story of Giselle, a Bavarian peasant girl who dies of a broken heart when she discovers she has been deceived by her suitor. Giselle's ghost is invoked by the Wilis, a spectral clan consisting of the ghosts of other jilted women, who roam the forest at night and wreak their revenge on any men they come across by forcing them to dance themselves to exhaustion, whereupon they are thrown into the lake to drown. Hell hath no fury, as Shakespeare said.

The project was organised in conjunction with Illustrators Ireland. You can see the entire collection of spectacular artwork here.
